Smartphone Market Stats

And you thought Google was dominating the market? Think again. According to a recent study by Nielsen, minorities—specifically Hispanics, Asians/Pacific Islanders and African Americans—are the big buyers of smartphones. About 31% of the U.S. population owns a smartphone and of all the Caucasians that purchased a phone in the past six months, 42% chose to purchase a smartphone while 60% of Asians/Pacific Islanders; 56% of Hispanics; and 44% of African Americans purchased smartphones. Another interesting stat included in this research is the fact that operating system preference seemed to vary by ethnicity as well. While Asians/Pacific Islanders tend to prefer Apple OS, African Americans tend to prefer RIM Blackberry OS.
