Smartphones Continue to Grown

Despite a struggling economy, gadget sales smartphones have been skyrocketing upwards over the last year. A new report shows that Smartphones sales are up nearly 90 percent in the third quarter over the same period in 2009 and have increased quite a bit just over the last quarter.

Over 81 million Smartphones across a wide variety of companies and carriers had been sold in over the third quarter of 2010 compared to just 42.8 million models sold over the same period in 2009. To date, Smartphone sellers have shipped over 200 million new phones with that number being about 67 percent higher than this point in 2009. Certainly the number of Android phones that have hit the market over the last year as well as continued popularity of the iPhone has helped jump start the market.

Nokia is still the king of the Smartphones worldwide with a whopping 32.7 percent of the market share. Apple sits in second place with 17.4 percent of the market.
